Jalal threatens to execute Max if Haqqani dies. President Hayes requests and obtains a 24-hour stay of Haqqani's execution from G'ulom so that an attempt can be made to rescue Max first, but John Zabel, his hawkish new foreign policy advisor, convinces Hayes to reverse course.
